In 1945 an article entitled “Spiritual Revival” was published in Finland. It recounted the the following about Hudson Taylor, missionary to China and founder of the China Inland Mission.
“During one of his missionary furloughs back to England in 1855, Taylor was preaching when suddenly he stopped. He stood speechless for a time with his eyes closed. When he began to speak again he explained:
‘I have seen a vision. I saw in this vision a great war that encompasses the world. I saw this war recess and then start again, actually being two wars. After this I saw much unrest and revolts that will affect many nations. I saw in some places spiritual awakenings. In Russia, I saw there will come a general, all-encompassing, national SPIRITUAL AWAKENING so great that there could never be another like it. From Russia, I saw the awakening spread to many European countries. Then I saw an all-out awakening, followed by the coming of Christ.’”
Recently, we had a missionary with us who is working in the areas of the former USSR. He told of the great work God is doing in Russia and its former satellites. He shared some wonderful testimonies of the power God to transform lives. He also told us how the Church there (and in many other places world-wide) is praying for the Church in America. He told of several dozens of believers individually having visions of revival coming to this nation. When he asked them where, they could not tell him. But when he showed them a map they all placed their hands on northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. They firmly believe that the last great revival will start here, spread through America, and from here around the world.
I believe that this is true and I ask the Lord to accomplish His sovereign work here my life, in Living Waters Fellowship, and in Two Harbors. My heart aches for the huge needs in our community. Having had the privilege to live and serve here for 23 years this month, has given me a love for our community and the people who live and work here. Many are good, decent folk who are a pleasure to know and love. Some have many needs on many levels. It is often a challenge to find ways to help make a difference in their lives. Yet through the years, the Lord has been more than faithful and we have seen His love and mercy poured out on all who seek Him.
Still, no matter how good or how troubled we are, the only real answer to the needs around us is the Lord Jesus Christ, Himself. Being good is not good enough. No one can ever be good enough to enter into eternal life. Good works, while an important part of a believer’s life, cannot save. And no amount of Bible reading or prayer will gain heaven for us. The Bible, God’s Word, is very clear that we are “saved by grace through faith and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9) “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
Call out to Him today. He can and will help you. Find a church where His Word is preached and believed. Get a Bible and begin reading in the Gospel of John in the New Testament. Begin a journey that will last your lifetime and will take you into His presence forever. I bid you God’s peace!
